6. Biennale der Ostseestaaten, Norwegens und Islands

Topic: Exhibitions
Periods:
  • 1975/07/05 — 1975/09/07
6. Biennale der Ostseestaaten with emphasised young collection of the GDR

The layout of the catalogue changed in 1975 from a book to 9 individual issues in a dust jacket. This created more space for introductory texts and information on the artists and collections for each country. According to the imprint, Karl-Heinz Kukla, Maria Orphal and Ute Schuffenhauer from the Centre for Art Exhibitions of the GDR were responsible for compiling the GDR contribution in 1975. They emphatically chose young artists from the GDR.

Iceland's contribution was selected by the Félag íslenskra myndlistarmanna (FIM) of the Society of Visual Artists in Iceland. The Federal Republic's collection was complemented by a leaflet entitled For Anti-Imperialist Solidarity. This contains illustrations and the work list of a large number of posters, although it remains unclear whether the posters were shown as part of the Biennale.

The quantity of acquisitions from the sixth Biennial exceeds all other years in terms of numbers. The largest number was the number of graphic prints acquired. This focus on graphic sheets can be seen among all acquisitions in the Kunsthalle Rostock's inventory. Both the ease of transport and the more favourable prices compared to other genres justify this focus of the collection to this day.
