In her research, art historian Annabel Ruckdeschel sheds light on the Intergrafik, an exhibition held every three years in East Berlin. The triennial provided an insight into the diversity and topicality of graphic work worldwide. At the same time, Intergrafik became a platform for international exchange, which was actively promoted by the makers of the exhibition. Meetings of artists also served as a platform for networking and exchange between different political struggles and liberation movements. In keeping with the thought "How can art move people if it is not itself moved by the fates of the people?" (Bertolt Brecht, quoted from the Intergrafik '80 catalogue, translated by Art in Networks), the issues of Intergrafik were organized around a motto or message.

Annabel Ruckdeschel is a research associate (post-doc) at the Art History Institute of the Justus Liebig University in Giessen. She wrote her doctoral thesis on the topic "Montparnasse, carrefour du monde" Die Erfindung von Paris als Kunstzentrum - von den Caféausstellungen in Montparnasse zu den internationalen Ausstellungen der "École des Paris", 19211946 (“Montparnasse, carrefour du monde“ The Invention of Paris as Centre of Art – From the Café Exhibitions in Montparnasse to the International Exhibitions of the “École de Paris”, 1921–1946), at the University of Zurich. In addition to her research focus on graphic art in the GDR, Ruckdeschel works on the theory and history of exhibiting and on the history of art criticism, among other topics.
