Veit Hofmann (b. 1944) is closely connected with the Künstlerhaus Dresden-Loschwitz - he spent his childhood there and from an early age became familiar with the artists who lived there. After an apprenticeship as a book printer, he studied with Gerhard Kettner and Herbert Kunze at the Dresden Hochschule für Bildende Künste from 1967. Since 1972 Hofmann has worked as a freelance artist in Dresden and has been living in the Künstlerhaus Loschwitz again since 1985. With the Dresden artists Stefan Plenkers (b. 1945), Rainer Zille (1945-2005) and Helge Leiberg (b. 1954) he has a close friendship as well as shared study trips before and after 1990. Together with Rainer Zille and Stefan Plenkers, Hofmann traveled to Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in 1980, among other places. Hofmann also met Chagas Freitas, Brazilian art collector and cultural attaché in the 1980s, in 1986.
The interview in the presence of Petra Zille is part of a conversation conducted by the Zille family (Petra Zille, Ulrike Zille and Ray Zille-Bielß). They manage and preserve the estate of Rainer Zille and run the gallery Kunst vom Dachboden since 2020: https://www.kunst-vom-dachboden.de/. Art in Networks thanks them very much for providing the video material as well as the rights of use.
