The art gallery ChertLüdde in Berlin hosts the Mail Art Archive with works and documents by Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt (born 1932) and Robert Rehfeldt (1931-1993). Based in East Berlin, the Rehfeldts were important protagonists of international Mail Art Networks in the 1970s and 80s. Their archive at ChertLüdde gallery can be consulted upon request for research purposes: https://chertluedde.com/artist/mail-art-archive-ruth-wolf-rehfeldt-robert-rehfeldt/
The gallery also regularly dedicates exhibitions to the Rehfeldts. For instance, HOME ARCHIVES: Paulo Bruscky & Robert Rehfeldt’s Mail Art Exchanges from East Berlin to South America, curated by Zanna Gilbert and David Horvitz in 2015, displayed the artistic correspondence between Robert Rehfeldt and the Brazilian artist Paulo Bruscky: https://chertluedde.com/exhibition/home-archives-paulo-bruscky-robert-rehfeldts-mail-art-exchanges-curated-by-zanna-gilbert-and-david-horvitz-opening-reception-saturday-10th-january-2015/
In the second part of the interview, Jennifer Chert explains the structure of the Mail Art Archive and reflects on the reception of Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt since the German reunification.
Together with Mail Artist Lutz Wohlrab, Jennifer Chert also produced a video portrait of Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt that gives insights into her biography and the development of her Typewritings, unique art form of visual poetry created on a typewriter. The film can be watched on vimeo (ca. 13 min): Signs of Signs (2015)
